Pleased to Meet You

Soumya Satheesan

MSW / Registered Social Worker

Hello, I’m Soumya

Therapy for Individuals & Caregivers in Calgary

Starting therapy takes courage, especially when you’ve been carrying so much on your own. Maybe you’ve spent years being strong for others, navigating complex systems, or carrying experiences that were never fully understood or supported. You don’t have to do it alone anymore.

I’m a Registered Social Worker with a Master of Social Work from the University of Waterloo, a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Calgary, and a background in background in Alternative Medicine (Ayurveda). I bring over 16 years of experience supporting individuals, families, children, seniors, and communities, with a particular understanding of how life experiences, culture, relationships, and larger systems can shape our well-being.

I believe therapy should be a place where you feel safe, respected, and truly heard. There is no pressure to “fix” yourself or have everything figured out. We can start wherever you are, move at your pace, and work together toward what matters most to you.

Beyond the Therapy Room

When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me spending meaningful time with my family. I enjoy road trips, exploring new places, cooking and trying different cuisines, watching movies, journaling, meditating, and always learning something new.

These things keep me grounded and remind me of the importance of presence, curiosity, connection, and balance—values I bring into my work with clients.

My hope is that therapy feels like a place where you can put down some of what you’ve been carrying, reconnect with your strengths, and find a way forward that feels right for you.

If you’re considering therapy, I invite you to reach out. You don’t need to know exactly where to begin—we can start with a conversation and take it from there.

My Therapeutic Approach

My approach is strength-based, client-centred, trauma-informed, solution-focused, and culturally informed.

I believe every person carries resilience, wisdom, and strengths within them, even when life feels heavy or stuck. Therapy is a collaborative process where we can make space for your lived experience, understand what’s happening, and explore what might help you move forward.

My experience working within government systems, child and family services, disability services, and community mental health has given me a strong understanding of how external systems and life circumstances can impact our internal well-being. I strive to support clients not only emotionally, but also practically and holistically.

I integrate evidence-informed therapeutic approaches with a broader perspective that considers mind, body, culture, relationships, and environment. Sessions with me are grounded, reflective, and practical, with empathy, gentle challenge, and tools that can be useful in everyday life.
